Eco-Friendly Campaign of the Week: Stamping out Wastefulness

An Indonesian Advertising Agency teamed up with the World Wildlife Fund (world conservation organization) to crack down on companies with wasteful paper practices. They created a simple design of a tree with the slogan "Less Paper More Trees," and made this image with the slogan into a stamp. They distributed the stamps to companies with excessive paper usage in an effort to spread awareness about the depletion of earth's resource of trees. By stamping the sides of stacks of paper, companies could get a sense of how much paper they were going through as they watched the image of the tree shrink into a stump and eventually disappear.

Promotional stamps are an effective, economical way to get a message across. In keeping with the World Wildlife Fund's emphasis on economy of resources, the stamp is a tool than can communicate a message or a company logo over and over without using up too much plastic, energy, etc. Think about using stamps for your next promotion whether it involves an eco-friendly campaign or not!

As Green As Possible

Aveda is the first and only beauty company that manufactures with 100% certified wind power. This means that they use clean electricity, that is not created from burning coal or oil that adds pollutants to the air, at their primary manufacturing facility. Aveda is known not only for its superb beauty, skin, and hair products, but also for their devotion to preserving the environment while making women and men more beautiful.

It's no surprise that their hairbrushes are made with recycled content, wood, and wrapped in recycled cardboard boxes. Staying true to their commitment to the environment and having their eco-friendly brushes featured in a magazine makes Aveda absolutely fabulous!

Eco-Friendly Campaign of the Week: Can Depletes Ozone!

This NRDC promo uses the pull tab on a drink can to emphasize the depleting ozone layer. This is a great use of promotional cans, I wonder if other promotional beverages can be used in a similar way.

This promo definitely got the message across. It is interesting to see just how ordinary everyday items can be used towards a worthy cause like protecting the environment. No doubt the cans that were used were eco-friendly as well. As long as they were recycled.

Eco-Friendly Tip: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Recycling benefits everyone: people, animals, Mother Earth. Recycling is essentially a reprocessing of previously used products rather than the disposal of goods, which contributes to the global accumulation of waste. Since the advent of recycling, methods and opportunities for recycling have become easy and accessible for everyone, which means no excuses!

Everyone can do there part by making sure to recycle the basics, such as glass, plastics, paper, aluminum, etc. The next step toward eco-friendly living would be to invest in promotional products made of recycled materials. The reason for supporting products made of recycled materials versus virgin materials is that they require a fraction of the energy during production. While you are recycling, remember that you can always reuse as well. Reusable alternatives such as plastic Tupperware, washable plates and mugs rather than disposable paper ones. Promoting recycling and the reduction of waste via resuables are a great way to bring together members of a company. Recycled Fleece Jackets and Vests will not only keep employees warm but will inspire a sense of communal effort toward an eco-friendlier future.

Although everyone should be recycling everyday, today is America Recycles Day, so it is the perfect opportunity to do your part!

Ecological Facts: Building A Better Bag

As issues like climate change and oil dependency push environmental concerns into the spotlight, one popular target for change is reducing use of disposable plastic bags. Below are some stats from a recent Ad Age article about alternatives to plastic bags that really points out the scope of the problem.

With retailers promoting reusable bags we will hopefully see these numbers decrease over time. In particular, non-woven totes are sturdy, reusable and compact, making them an ideal substitute for plastic.

Ecological Campaign of the Week: World Wildlife Fund Conserves

wwf-dispenser.jpg

With minor changes to a standard restroom paper towel dispenser, the World Wildlife Fund (an environmental conservation group) was able to promote and effective campaign. With a transparent silhouette of South America installed in the front of the dispensers, people using up the paper towels were forced to confront the issues of waste and conservation.

This promotional campaign was especially effective because it had two trajectories. First, it promoted personal conservation, the little ways in which you can cut back your consumption of earth's resources in your everyday life. Second, with a map of South America front and center, people who encountered this promotion were reminded of the greater global conservation issues as well. Since going green is becoming more of an available option with environmentally friendly promotional products, there is no exuse for abusing the resources of our earth!
